Distance: 17.0 km Time: 4:30 Ascent: 110m Descent: 190m – Wikiloc

This is a short section of the Camino del Cid and today it was overcast and raining, a miserable day but our first in 3 weeks. Between Bubierca and Castejón de las Armas the path deteriorates due to lack of use and disappears in places but waymaking is excellent. From then on to Ateca it uses the road.

The Chapel of San Miguel was built on Bubierca’s promontory in the 15th century over the small Moslem fort that existed in El Cid’s time

Ateca (pop 1,674) was occupied by the Cid Campeador in 1081 according to the Cantar de mio Cid.
