Teruel (pop 32,622) is considered the capital of Aragonese Mudejar. The Mudejars were the Muslims who remained after the Christian conquest. They used plaster, brick & ceramics to create a unique geometric and chromatic art that became very fashionable among Christians. Mudéjar architecture of Aragon has been recognized as a World Heritage.

A local we met described the old town of Teruel as “pequeña pero chula” (small but cool) so a good place for a day off hiking.
