Laguardia, at the start of the Wine and Fish Route across the Basque Country is one of The Most Beautiful Villages in Spain. We thoroughly enjoyed our 3 days there.

From the vineyard lands in Oyón to the port of Bermeo, the GR 38 Wine and Fish Route crosses the Basque Country from south to north. Muleteers set out from the ports of the Cantabrian Sea with fresh and salted fish. They returned with wheat, salt, vinegar and wine.

We spent a week walking along the Basque Coast visiting Gaztelugatxe, Bilbao, Elantxobe, Lekeitio, the Basque Coast Geopark from Deba to Zumaia and San Sebastian.

6 days on the Camino Ignaciano from Loyola to Laguardia; 115 km, 2,800m up, 2,600m down.

To get to the Wine Fight in Haro we walked 85 km from Laguardia via Elciego, Nájera, the Monasteries of San Millán de la Cogolla and Santo Domingo de la Calzada.
